چکیده

T he reasons why diabetic patients with microalbuminuria have marked endothelial damage (1,2) and an increased risk of atherosclerosis (3,4) are unclear. Infection with Helicobacter pylori, especially with strains carrying the cytotoxin-associated gene A (CagA), might represent a causal factor, since anti-CagA antibodies elicited by infection may cross-react with endothelial antigens (5), increasing the vascular damage associated with diabetes itself and consequent albumin leakage. Furthermore, infection might induce a persistent systemic inflammatory response, which is a recognized risk factor for atherosclerosis (6). In this study, we investigated the possible pathogenetic role of CagA-positive H. pylori strains in type 2 diabetic patients with microalbuminuria.

Seroprevalence of anti-Helicobacter pylori and anti-cytotoxin-associated gene A antibodies among healthy individuals in center of Iran

Objective(s):Helicobacter pylori infection occurs worldwide, but the prevalence of this infection varies greatly among different countries and population groups. The aim of this study was to determine the seroprevalence of anti-Helicobacter pylori and anti-cytotoxin-associated gene A (CagA) antibodies in asymptomatic healthy population in the center of Iran and to investigate the relation with ...

VacA and cagA genotypes status and antimicrobial resistance properties of Helicobacter pylori strains isolated from meat products in Isfahan province, Iran

Although Helicobacter pylori has a significant impact on the occurrence of severe clinical syndromes, its exact ways of transmission and origin have not been identified. According to the results of some previously published articles, foods with animal origins play a substantial role in the transmission of H. pylori to humans. The present investigation was carried out to study the vacuolating cy...

Prevalence of EPIYA motifs in Helicobacter pylori strains isolated from patients with gastroduodenal disorders in northern Iran

Background: Cytotoxin-associated gene A (CagA)-positive strains of Helicobacter pylori are associated with gastroduodenal diseases. Evidences have suggested that the type of H pylori CagA EPIYA motifs may be associated with specific disorders (i.e., gastritis, peptic ulcer, or gastric cancer).  We investigated the prevalence of different EPIYA motifs (A, B, C, or D) in H. pylori strains is...

بررسی ارتباط آلل‌های s ژن vacA در هلیکوباکترپیلوری با بیماری‌های گوارشی در ایران: گزارش کوتاه

Background: Helicobacter pylori has been classified as the class I carcinogenic agent by world health organization. Colonization of the human stomach with H. pylori is a risk factor for gastroduodenal diseases. The secreted vacA toxin is an important H. pylori virulence factor that causes multiple alterations in gastric epithelial cells and T cells. Several families of vacA alleles have been de...

Infection by Cag A Positive Strains of Helicobacter pylori is Associated with Autoimmune Thyroid Disease in Iranian Patients

Background: Infectious agents have been suspected as a triggering factor for development of autoimmune thyroid disease (ATD). Some reports from Western countries have suggested association between Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection and ATD. Objective: To investigate the association of ATD with Cag A seropositivity in a population with high rate and early age of onset of HP infection. Methods: I...
